Kenya: Former World File Holder Brigid Kosgei Caps Off Disappointing 12 months With Large Win At Abu Dhabi Marathon

Nairobi — Former world report holder for the ladies’s marathon, Brigid Kosgei, clocked a powerful 2:19:15 to win the Abu Dhabi Marathon within the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday.

In second place was Ethiopian Hawi Feysa (2:24:03) as her compatriot, Ethlemahu Sintayehu, got here third in 2:25:36.

The win could not have come at an ideal time for Kosgei who has endured a disappointing 12 months by which she didn’t make the rostrum on the street races by which she competed.

She started the 12 months with a fourth-place end on the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon in UAE, clocking 1:06:34, earlier than she dropped out of April’s London Marathon resulting from harm.

Her efforts for a primary New York Marathon crown — and a 3rd on American soil — fell agonisingly brief when she completed fourth in 2:27:45.

Her triumph in Abu Dhabi marks her first win in over 12 months since she timed 1:06:46 to excel on the Lisbon Marathon in Might final 12 months.

Within the males’s race, the 2014 African Cross Nation champion Leonard Barsoton clocked 2:09:37 to complete second, behind Eritrea’s Samsom Amare Hailemicael, who beat the tape in 2:07:10.

Turkey’s Ilham Ozbilen completed third in 2:10:16.

Second place was a large enchancment for Barsoton whose final race yielded sixth place for him on the New Delhi Half Marathon after timing 1:01:36.
